Riya.com, next generation photo album

I may have to say good bye to Flickr for Riya.

Riya is a great photo album. It has a feature which hard to be rivalled, face recognition. Every photo uploaded to Riya will be scanned for faces and we can teach Riya to guess the people on a photo.

Riya solve the problem of tagging, which is lack of detail. It splits the tags into several information, like location, time, and people. For me, I believe the face recognition is the one that will make Riya the best in Web Photo Album. Further than that, Riya plans to have more object recognition.

In the first day of its public beta release, their members has uploaded more than one million photos. Riya’s real strength will be obvious if our contact is all in Riya. If everybody has teach Riya to recognize his photos, we can do automatic recognition by getting the contact detail from gmail, yahoo, friendster or other place. We only need to teach Riya to recognize our photos!

I believe Riya can be developed moreover. I think something like family tree embedded to Riya. Or maybe Riya can work more closely to friendster-like website to create more advance social system.

At last, let guess who will takeover Riya, Google or Yahoo? I pick Google!!

    1. But I’ll stick with flickr until Riya provides another way to upload the photos. Right now, the only way to do it is by using Riya Uploader which is only run on Windows 2000/XP.
